Welcome to our School!

As Executive Head Teacher of Merstone School I am pleased to welcome you to our incredible school.  We have a strong focus on high aspirations and resilience across our school, which caters for children aged 2–19 years with SLD and PMLD.  Many of the students that attend our school have additional special educational needs such as autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit and hyperactive disorders (ADHD) and speech, language and communication difficulties.

The vision for Merstone School embraces a broad, rich, joyful educational experience enabling all our pupils to reach their full potential and develop with enthusiasm for life and learning within the contest of the broader community.  Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do.  They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

Our pupils enjoy the many inspirational opportunities on offer in our caring, family environment.  Our extremely committed team, in partnership with our parents and an effective governing body, work in partnership to maximise the outcomes and experiences for our children.

We promote the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of our children, including a recognition and understanding of Fundamental British Values.  Our pupils are exceptionally well behaved, kind, helpful and supportive of each other; they enjoy opportunities to get involved with the day to day running of our school through our Student Council.  They are proud to be part of our school family.

We have high expectations of our pupils and stakeholders and strive for our values to be lived out by all who work and learn at Merstone.  We work relentlessly to nurture our pupils to unlock and achieve their potential.  Our teachers lead by example; inspiring our young people to learn through rich curriculums and the experiences we create for them inside and outside the classroom.  Our creative curriculums allows us to bring 'learning to life'.  Our topic-based approach is designed to allow us to teach the breadth of curriculums, alongside enrichment experiences, building on our pupils' cultural capital.  Our curriculums are designed to be challenging and aspirational, to ensure that pupils fulfil their potential and are enthused by learning at Merstone.  Success is so much more than academic outcome and here at Merstone we value and celebrate progress in so many areas including social and emotional regulation, kindness, attitude towards learning, attendance, building positive relationships, showing unconditional positive regard.

We are extremely proud of all our school has to offer and our pupil outcomes.  We welcome visits to Merstone from families looking for the best special education for their children.  Please do get in touch with the school office to make an appointment to see our wonderful school; the best way to find out about our school is to come and see for yourself.  Our doors are always open, and we would be delighted to share our experience and time with you.

All the very best.
